SPARE RIB
Performed at:
Cadogan Hall (Dance Challenge 2008) The Place (Resolution! 2009) Roundhouse FREEDM Studio (2009) Pleasance Theatre (Cloud Dance Festival 2010). Thanks to: Caroline Salem. "For a one off gig lasting under 30 minutes, I've been impressed by how much effort has gone into several performances this Resolution! season. Scarlett Perdereau is one such example with her eclectic company of dancers and musicians, resplendent with full sized harp. Spare Rib takes the format of an experimental workshop where the musicians, actually, are the stars. From decorating the stage, sculpted round their various instruments, to demonstrating enormous versatility on these instruments, they manipulate the general flow of the action." - Josephine Leask "Spare Rib aspires to physical/aural synaesthesia, exploring the body as an instrument and vice versa. Dancers engage with musicians, pairing slinky shapes with sonorous cello tunes, and raunchy hip thrusts with distortion guitar riffs. We hear/watch percussive stamps and slaps on muscle, floor, metal and wood, and the glissandi of a harp as a visual, sensual and musical caress. It's a wonderful concept with huge potential, as dancers and musicians swap roles.(...)The dancers duet with the instruments.(...) The pure dance episodes are slick..." - Tara Paulsson |
